How did you find out about us?
My major breed of interest is:

Bo Bengtson

Bo Bengtson became involved in Sighthounds as a teenager, first in his native Sweden and since 1980 in the U.S. He has owned, bred and shown primarily Whippets, earlier also Greyhounds and Afghan Hounds. His Bohem “kennel,” although never numbering more than a handful of dogs, has accounted for at least 30 Best in Show winners at all-breed and specialty shows and more than 130 champions in the U.S., Europe, Australia and Asia.

Bo was approved to judge all Sighthounds by the FCI in 1976 and is now licensed to judge breeds in five Groups. He was initially approved by AKC to judge Sighthounds in the late 1970s, and by the KC (U.K.) to award CCs in Whippets, Greyhounds, Afghan Hounds, Salukis and Scottish Deerhounds, as well as breeds in other Groups. In 2016 he judged Best in Show at the Hound Assocation’s championship show in the U.K., the world’s largest Hound Group show with almost 2,000 dogs entered.

Other judging appointments include Crufts and Westminster (twice each), the FCI World Show (four times) and other major shows around the world. Bo has judged nearly 100 Sighthound shows and specialty events for Sighthound breeds. He has also judged BIS at all-breed shows in Scandinavia, Russia, the European Continent and Latin America.

Bo is the author of several books, including the award-winning "The Whippet" (3rd revised and expanded edition 2010) and the monumental reference work "Best in Show - the World of Show Dogs and Dog Shows" (2008; over 650 pages and 700 illustrations), which received the IBP Benjamin Franklin award, a unique honor for a dog book.

From 1984 to 1997, Bo published
Sighthound Review and was editor of The Afghan Hound Review. In 1997, in partnership with Paul Lepiane, he founded Dogs in Review, which quickly grew to several hundred pages per monthly issue. The magazine was sold in 2003, but Bo still contributes to it on a regular basis. He has been Editor-at-Large of Sighthound Review for the past few years, and from March 2014 is both Publisher and Editor-in-Chief. Because of his involvement in Sighthound Review he no longer judges AKC shows but still judges overseas on occasion.

Bo was the recipient of the Swedish Kennel Club’s Hamilton plaquet "for excellence in breeding" in 1982, the Swedish Whippet Club’s first award of merit in 1986, the Dog Writers Association of America’s first Elsworth L. Howell Award in 1994, the American Whippet Club’s Certificate of Achievement in 1997 and the Association of Purebred Dog Writers’ 2009 Stonehenge Award, presented to a person who has "contributed significantly to dogdom." The American Whippet Club gave him its Lifetime Achievement Award in 2012.

Bo lives in Ojai, Calif., with his partner, Paul Lepiane, and three Whippets.
